Prom Guide for the Perfect Dress

Shopping for that perfect dress is the most exciting part about prom! But this can be pretty difficult even for us girls who consider shopping to be a part of our daily routine. Luckily for you, we have come up with a guide to get you through these 4 crises!

1. Choose something unique. Every girl’s biggest fear while prom shopping is that hopefully no one else buys the same dress as me! This is a very common concern amongst us girls because it’s the one special night you have been looking forward to since grade 9 and you don’t want anyone to steal your thunder. Even though there is no guarantee as to whether you’ll be the only girl with that particular dress, there are a number of ways you can avoid this crisis. Try to do your prom dress shopping early, this way you won’t have to choose a dress from whatever is leftover. Most importantly, do a lot of research!! You want to look at many articles, blogs, magazines as you can to get inspiration. This helps you envision something outside of the box that most likely another girl won’t envision. Lastly, create a Facebook or Instagram Group with your classmates so you can post the dresses that have already been bought for prom.

2. Finding the right style for your body type. It can seem like there are a lot of rules when it comes to shopping for prom. Let us be the first ones to tell you there are no rules! I understand that certain styles can be more flattering on a particular body type than others, but ultimately, the decision is up to you. At the end of the day, it’ll be you that’s wearing the dress the entire night, so as long as you are comfortable with it, don’t worry about the rules :)

3. Staying under budget. This can be a tricky part when it comes to prom shopping. Make sure you have a set budget for yourself – either by your parents, or yourself if you're the one taking care of the bill. I know it can be rather frustrating trying to find THE dress when you have a budget, but there is always something for someone with the many variations that we carry. Also, many prom girls have this misconception that just because a dress is priced higher, it is a better dress. That is not the case at all. All prom dresses are equally fabulous regardless of the price!

4. Consider Alterations: Not every dress will fit perfectly. However, you must keep in mind that almost any long dress can be altered to fit you like a glove. Most shops have an in-house seamstress that can alter the dress to have it fit as if the dress was made just for you. So make sure to never rule out any options just because the dress doesn’t quite fit right, that can be fixed! You can also always ask the seamstress to add on different things to the dress if you feel you want to alter the style of the dress a bit. The possibilities are really endless :)
